Sally Caglioti, President

Sally Caglioti MT (ASCP) SBB began her career in transfusion medicine at Central Blood Bank of Pittsburgh where she attended the Specialist in Blood Bank Technology Program. After spending over eight years at the Sylvan N. Goldman Oklahoma Blood Institute as Director of Technical Services, she moved to Vitalant based in Scottsdale, Arizona.  While at BSI, Sally has held a number of positions, most prominently providing leadership for the consolidation and operation of BSI’s high volume centralized donor testing laboratories, Vitalant Laboratories.

Sally is currently the President of Creative Testing Solutions (CTS), a joint venture entered into by Florida Blood Services and BSI in 2010, and later expanded by the addition of two blood center owners.  With laboratories located in Dallas, Texas, Phoenix, Arizona and Tampa, Florida, CTS performs blood donor testing for approximately 38% of the U.S. blood supply and generates over $200 million in revenues.  CTS is a leader in the advancement of transfusion safety through scientific initiatives including development of tests for emerging infections, clinical studies and the participation in trials that generate data to assist in national policy decisions.

Throughout her career Sally has been actively involved in educational and scientific activities related to laboratory testing.  She has initiated the development of two Specialist in Blood Bank Technology (BBT) Programs, served as an AABB BBT Program auditor and has made presentations at numerous workshops and meetings.  She has lead test system clinical trials, participated in many infectious disease reagent and epidemiologic studies and been a collaborator on a long list of publications. Sally was presented with the America’s Blood Centers (ABC) Thomas F. Zuck Lifetime Achievement Award for her leadership role in the national implementation of Nucleic Acid Testing.  Sally has also received the South Central Association of Blood Banks (SCABB) Larry Trow Education, Scientific Lectureship and Karen Williams Memorial awards for her leadership in the transfusion medicine community.

As an active member of transfusion medicine professional organizations, Sally has participated on multiple committees, task forces and advisory panels for the SCABB, ABC and the AABB.  She has served on the AABB Board of Directors and Group Services for America’s Blood Centers (GSABC) Board of Directors.
