Gene Walther
Gene Walther is an executive consultant to Creative Testing Solutions (CTS) with more than 35 years of experience in the field of infectious diseases, medical devices, and oncology diagnostics. He joined CTS in mid-2018 and is responsible for major supplier contracts and relations, business development, and strategic initiatives.
Before his role at CTS, Gene served as the CEO of Vortex Biosciences in the field of liquid biopsy. His exciting career in the global health sector includes time as a consultant with the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation on their Ebola strategy and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), leading the diagnostic strategy teams across all the foundation’s disease focus areas. While at BMGF, Gene led a $50 million point-of-care initiative to develop a unique diagnostic platform capable of delivering high-quality testing for infectious diseases in developing nations. He was also a member of the BMGF Investment Committee, managing a $5B portfolio.
Gene spent most of his career working for several large multinational companies. He was President of Chiron’s Blood Testing business when the parent company was acquired by Novartis in 2006. Following the acquisition, he became President and Global Head of the Novartis Diagnostics business. He continued to build the global blood transfusion business and guided the development of the molecular diagnostics strategy for Novartis.
Gene holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Washington and bachelor’s degree in microbiology and immunology from Michigan State University. He is an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoys a wide range of activities from hiking and mountaineering to cycling and golf.
